This is the second in a 5 part series. Read part 1 here.
Didn’t Jesus always preach about helping the poor? Being raised Catholic, I was always taught for as long as I can remember to give to the poor and to help the less fortunate. How did it suddenly change that the people in need were to be looked down upon and be labeled as welfare moochers? Doesn’t that go against what Jesus said? Catholicism was the first Christian religion. All the other Christian religions were off shoots, starting with Martin Luther leaving the Catholic religion and starting the Lutheran religion. So, if being raised Catholic, I was always taught to give to the poor and that God wanted us to help the less fortunate, how did it suddenly become wrong and un-Christian for liberals to want to help the poor? Is it not the liberal folk who are truly following the word of God?
“All men are created equal”. That includes women! Sorry Rush and all you other sexists, but I am here to inform you that women are just as intelligent (in many cases more intelligent) and as capable as men. We don’t require a person who has an appendage between his legs to tell us what to do. There is nothing wrong with a woman who seeks a career and now a days, it is often crucial to have both spouses or partners in a relationship working. This does not make her less of a woman because she is not home running the vacuum in a pencil skirt with pearls around her neck, living to serve her husband and children.
God bless Gloria Steinman and all the other feminists who fought so hard in the 60’s and 70’s to pave the way for women. All young women today should be exposed to Helen Reddy’s “I am Woman” and be taught about the battles that were fought by such courageous women so they can become whatever they want to be when they grow up. I have shared this with my granddaughters and told them about the 1960’s when I was growing up. It is our duty to preserve the true history and to pass it on to our children and grandchildren.
“Will and Grace” and “Ellen” are two ground breaking television programs that proved to the world that Gay and lesbian people are just that…people. God made each and every one of us and some of us (not me, my husband will testify to this) can sing, some can dance, some can cook, swim, build, garden, teach, practice medicine, write, excel in mathematics or science, paint, repair things, cut hair etc. etc. etc. The point is, we are all made different. As the group called the human race we can all achieve so much together because of our differences.
You can buy contacts to change your eye color or dye to change your hair color but you had no choice in how God created you. Underneath, you still have the eye and hair color you were born to have. Gay and lesbian people were created to have the sexual orientation that they do and no amount of trying to hide it is going to change what God created so why should they have to? Just like there is nothing wrong with blue, green, hazel or brown eyes….there is nothing wrong with being attracted to the same gender.
I am so happy that in my lifetime I have seen the huge change in how society treats the GLBT community. We still have a long way to go but we liberals ARE helping create acceptance and a change of attitude. How can the right-wingers think having affairs, divorces and shows like “The Bachelor” of “The Bachelorette” are not mockeries of marriage but for two people of the same gender to marry is????? It makes no sense to me. Love is love and love is a beautiful thing.
Besides, how is trying to treat one group of people (who pay taxes just like everyone else) loving thy neighbor or doing onto others as you would do onto me?
