The man who is hiding his money in offshore accounts to avoid paying taxes that helped build the infrastructure we taxpayers built that business uses to make profits is using a blatant distortion to hold a couple of campaign events in Michigan today.
Fox News and Willard Romney’s campaign is manufacturing a controversy over President Obama’s recent remarks that business owners rely on the roads and bridges that all Americans depend on. Now the mainstream media is repeating the distortion and Romney is using it in campaign ads and events that hide what the President actually said — and that Romney agrees.
Romney is hiding his finances and ignoring the standard his own father set for presidential candidates of releasing 12 years of tax returns; telling us one year is all “you people need to know about his finances,” yet he is distorting the President’s words. Businesses depend on our highway system to move their products, our school system to educate their future workers, and our court system to keep their competitors honest.
Romney admits that “a lot of people help you in a business” — the “people who provide roads, the fire, the police.” But he’s still distorting what the President said for political gain. He said the very same thing in his own remarks to Olympians during the opening ceremonies for the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City saying, “You Olympians, however, know you didn’t get here solely on your own power.”
The Romney campaign has co-opted husband and wife Michigan Republican lawmakers Mike and Eileen Kowall – lent to the Romney campaign by Matty Moroun – and Jerry Grubb of Wee Discover Child Daycare & Learning Center for a campaign event today they are calling the “We Did Build This” event.
It’s set for 10 a.m. today at the business owned by the Kowalls – Accurate Woodworking – 7675 Highland Rd. in Waterford.
A second event features Terry Applegate of Applegate Insulation, who has done well with the federal energy conservation tax credits, set for 3 p.m. today at their facility in Webberville, 1000 Highview Dr.
