Monday briefing and open thread

Heya Folks. I’m filling in for Christine today for the briefing and open thread. So if it seems like I’m a child shuffling around in adult shoes, that’s why. Shuffle shuffle shuffle….

Michigan is Joining Ohio to get Lake Erie’s algae problem under control. As it turns out tourists don’t like the smell of rotting algae. And algae blooms are a threat to fish. I was flying over Lake Erie on Wednesday and I saw miles of shoreline bordered by farms. My first thought was “Wow…that’s beautiful” but my SECOND thought was “Hey! From here it looks like the current along the northern shore runs west to east” but my THIRD thought was “Runoff from those farms is going to be a problem” As it turns out, it is.

Gosh. I had no idea Mike Wallace got his start on WOOD radio in Grand Rapids. That’s cool.

Shuffle shuffle shuffle….

Palisades nuke plant has been shut down for refueling. Anybody notice a drop in power? Me neither. Let’s just say wind power intermittency criticisms are silly.

Shuffle shuffle shuffle…

Ah, here we go. Lake Winds wind farm is resuming construction in Mason County, bringing Consumer’s energy to 8% of their energy from renewables as per the Michigan renewable portfolio standard. Rad.

I uh……..you can see a pattern here. Great Lakes…Energy. Okay. Let’s see here…politics, politics…politics. Er…

ROBOTICS event at U of M for GM’s self driving cars! Forgetaboutit! THAT is cool! “You seem to have had too much to drink Dave……I will be driving you home Dave…..what are you doing Dave? No, Dave, you’ve had too much already. I won’t start the car until that bottle of whiskey is in my tank, you know I can use 80 proof liquor as fuel Dave.”

Shuffle shuffle shuffle…

Politics, politics….AH! Here we go. Michigan House Dems are suing the GOP for being GOPpish. Or maybe for Gopping. The whole 2/3 majority thing with the immediate effect whatsit. Look, let’s just go to Lansing and follow the law of the land. Eh? Follow the laws like the rest of us have to.

When my boys fight in the backseat of the car while I’m driving…I don’t care who started it. I don’t care. I don’t CARE. As far as I know, I’m paying my State reps for health insurance and a pension…a PENSION…a freakin’ PENSION! Who get’s a PENSION anymore? All’s I know is my tax dollars go to pay the health insurance and a PENSION (what IS a pension anyway?) for LIFE for these guys. It is too much to ask for my reps to, you know…follow the, you know…..law? The law which was, like, created by other lawmakers who also got their pensions and insurance paid for for life by the taxpayers.
