Pontiac students lead the way to end the use of the “R” word

Give it up for kids. They are almost always smarter than Republicans. Probably why the Republicans hate schools so much.

PTHS: Spread The Word To End The Word 2012 – “I’m Eric” from McCoy Studios on Vimeo.

PONTIAC — A group of students at Pontiac Township High School has created one of the latest videos to go “viral” on the Internet.

“I’m Eric” was directed by members of the school’s Peers in Action club and submitted to Spread the Word to End the Word, a national campaign that encourages people to stop the demeaning use of the words “retard” or “retarded.”

Everyone involved with the project hopes the views translate into pledges. On Wednesday, the campaign’s annual pledge day, PTHS had more students than ever agree to stop using the word.

“Students are embracing it,” said Baumgardner, adding she hopes the video will help her students be seen as “people more like everybody else, than not.”

“If people can stop using the word, then they will start treating them with respect,” she said.

Great project, and great leadership by the kids.

Oh, and my post had nothing to do with this:

Absolutely nothing to do with that.

Nothing.
