With friends like these... The group working to recall Michigan Governor Rick Snyder, Michigan Rising missed a campaign finance report deadline by a few days this month. Though this isn't entirely uncommon given the unnecessarily complex and cumbersome reporting methods they use, it was still a… »

Tuesdays are just plain sexy, aren't they? Let's start with some Great Lakes. First, here's the Hoekstra trying to trade our lakes for some oil: From the MDP release: “Even most Republicans have supported the ban on drilling in the Lakes because they recognize that a disaster… »

Tell Hoekstra and Romney NO on November 6Tell Hoekstra and Romney NO on November 6

As you know, the 2012 elections are less than six months from now and the stakes are higher than ever. Whoever wins this election will determine whether our nation will continue to move to a new tune or rewind the same old song. We want leaders who can relate to and implement measures that will… »

As many of you know, Kyle Olson has operated out of Michigan for 8 years now, working for secret funders to demonize public school unions. For years he focused on the MEA, but he has since gone national, parading as a school reformer in order to play the press and blame school employees for every… »

Yes! I love Mondays! Let's brief! Julie Mack has an interesting observation on marriage equality: The fact is, it's hard to fashion a convincing case that gay marriage undermines American values or hurts society. If you accept the idea that homosexuality is a biological trait… »

I've chatted a little about the proposal to eliminate state licensing for certain professions. See here, here, and kinda here. Here's a little closer look at the subject. Let's start with how it started. The Michigan Office of Regulatory Reinvention (ORR) put together an advisory board of 14… »

  • Can someone clarify this clarification bill for me?

Specifically, the bill is aimed at giving an answer on whether it is legal under the Open Meetings Act for officials to cast votes and participate in public meetings via electronic methods such as Skype.

So does that mean that if 4 out of 7 board members conference on the phone, then it’s not a quorum and not subject to OMA?

  • This article at A2Politico comes highly recommended, but it’s behind the paywall my registration / login doesn’t work so I can’t get in to sponsor it for you.  If you have an account, check it out.
  • Another white man declares there is no racism in Crazy Pete’s ad.

  • Speaking of Twitter, it looks like they’ll be censoring some tweets:

“As we continue to grow internationally, we will enter countries that have different ideas about the contours of freedom of expression,” officials said in the Jan. 26 statement. “Some differ so much from our ideas that we will not be able to exist there.”

Such countries include France and Germany, which ban pro-Nazi content. Other countries may have similar freedom of expression policies as those in the U.S. but for historical or cultural reasons restrict certain types of content, according to the statement.

Which is unfortunate on so many levels, not the least of which is that we might never get another Hoekstra Meme.

  • Also on Hoekstra, please check out Progress Michigan’s post from yesterday

Our Census daily –

Profile AmericaTuesday, February 7th.  This month, the word “heart” usually makes us think of the romance of Valentine’s Day, coming up next week.  But February is also American Heart Month, with a more serious meaning — taking care of our physical heart.  Everyone should be aware of the warning signs of a problem, an uncomfortable pressure in the chest may signal a heart attack, while numbness or weakness on one side of the body could mean a stroke.  Experts say you can help prevent these with a balanced lifestyle of physical activity, weight control and moderate intake of salt and alcohol. While heart disease has claimed fewer lives in recent years, it is still the nation’s number one killer — responsible for 616,000 deaths annually.  You can find these and more facts about America from the U.S. Census Bureau, online at www.census.gov.

Have an awesome, strong, consistently liberal Tuesday!! :D

I don't just blog policy. I MOCK IT.
