Today in talk
- Tony at www.thetonyshow.org. Today’s guests are Roger Cope, Joel Ferguson, Occupy Detroit, and Chris Michalakis. You can give Tony a call when he’s on air or chat with him on Twitter @tonytrupiano or on his Facebook page. To listen to yesterday’s segment with Eclectablog by visiting Tony’s podcast directory.
- Stephanie Miller – today she’s got Charlie Pierce, Rep Adam Smith, Eric Burns, and the hilarious Judy Tenuta. You can stream Steph live from ustream, btw.
- Thom Hartmann will be discussing whether sugar should be regulated as a toxin. Thom talks a lot about the politics and science of food on his show. Very interesting stuff.
- Ed Schultz – Not sure of the lineup yet. Last night he discussed Hoekstra’s racist ad on his MSNBC show. You can watch the episode when it goes online here.
- The War Room with Jennifer Granholm is on Current at 9pm. I don’t have a lineup for her show yet.

- Can someone clarify this clarification bill for me?
Specifically, the bill is aimed at giving an answer on whether it is legal under the Open Meetings Act for officials to cast votes and participate in public meetings via electronic methods such as Skype.
So does that mean that if 4 out of 7 board members conference on the phone, then it’s not a quorum and not subject to OMA?
- This article at A2Politico comes highly recommended, but it’s behind the paywall my registration / login doesn’t work so I can’t get in to sponsor it for you. If you have an account, check it out.
- Another white man declares there is no racism in Crazy Pete’s ad.
- Speaking of Twitter, it looks like they’ll be censoring some tweets:
“As we continue to grow internationally, we will enter countries that have different ideas about the contours of freedom of expression,” officials said in the Jan. 26 statement. “Some differ so much from our ideas that we will not be able to exist there.”
Such countries include France and Germany, which ban pro-Nazi content. Other countries may have similar freedom of expression policies as those in the U.S. but for historical or cultural reasons restrict certain types of content, according to the statement.
Which is unfortunate on so many levels, not the least of which is that we might never get another Hoekstra Meme.
- Also on Hoekstra, please check out Progress Michigan’s post from yesterday
Our Census daily –
Profile America — Tuesday, February 7th. This month, the word “heart” usually makes us think of the romance of Valentine’s Day, coming up next week. But February is also American Heart Month, with a more serious meaning — taking care of our physical heart. Everyone should be aware of the warning signs of a problem, an uncomfortable pressure in the chest may signal a heart attack, while numbness or weakness on one side of the body could mean a stroke. Experts say you can help prevent these with a balanced lifestyle of physical activity, weight control and moderate intake of salt and alcohol. While heart disease has claimed fewer lives in recent years, it is still the nation’s number one killer — responsible for 616,000 deaths annually. You can find these and more facts about America from the U.S. Census Bureau, online at www.census.gov.
Have an awesome, strong, consistently liberal Tuesday!!
