Snyder accuses Michigan of “decades of mismanagement and overspending”

From sub only MIRS,

Governor Snyder recently sent an email to his peeps, bragging about how he cut Michigan spending by one-third:

“So, does this mean taxpayers can expect a hefty refund from the state? Unfortunately not yet; after decades of mismanagement and chronic overspending, we still have a lot of work to do to get our fiscal house in order. But it does mean that in the future instead of spending money to pay off long-term liabilities, we can direct that money to other priorities such as education.”

Decades of mismanagement and chronic overspending?

Well I know the nerd was busy with bits and bytes and pink slips, but you’d think he’d know that the last couple of “decades” have been dominated by Republican Senators and a Republican Governor. I mean it seems like he knows

Governor elect Rick Snyder may have run as a political outsider but he’s summoned some very familiar faces to arrange his administration. The three top aides announced this week are all former Engler appointees.

“It’s the old home team,” Beth Chapelle, president and CEO of the Detroit Economic Club and former MEDC chairwoman told the Detroit News.

“There was a lot they got done in those days,” she said. “I can’t think of a better way to jump-start turning Michigan around.”

Hm. Imagine that.
