It’s Wednesday, happy hump day!

A friend of mine posted a ‘secrets’ video on FaceBook last night. It is by a young lady in Grand Rapids, telling of her mother’s very recent suicide. I am the first to admit, I am a sap and am brought to tears easily…but I rarely have them rolling freely down my cheeks. It was very moving, and prompted me to search out others of a like nature.

Apparently this is a phenomena sweeping YouTube and Tumblr. Young adults are filming themselves and displaying their secrets on pieces of paper. Some are gut-wrenching, others are heartbreaking, and there are ones which make me smile. And every one of them make me want to reach out and hug the secret sharer.

It makes me realize, again, how busy our lives have become….and how little we truly know the people walking around us every day. As a culture, we are so wrapped up in seeing the ‘big picture’, we rarely pause to share in the smaller ones. And those smaller ones are almost never small.

I am a writer, a student, a teacher, a philosopher, a parent, a child. All of these components have been essential in creating the woman writing to you today. Everyone has a purpose in life, be it huge or minor. We all have a role to play. Mine is to help others along the way, regardless of the Path they are called to follow. My students come to me of their own will, adapt my teachings to their own experiences and move on when they are ready. To my thoughts, this is exactly as it should be.
