A Frightening Realization

It's finally come.  The highly debated, much anticipated (or dreaded, depending on whom you are) first snow of the season.  With great joy, I surveyed the deck yesterday and admired the gentle dusting of beautiful shimmering crystals of frozen water.

This is Michigan; this statement shouldn't surprise the readers of this diary.  Michigan means, happily, snow in the winter.  Snow gives hours of play to the young, moments of deep dread to the driver, and uneasy thoughts to the budgeting staff of any municipality.  Have we saved enough in the budget to take care of the roads?  Too much?

Remember the fiasco in Detroit less than 10 years ago?  That was a nightmare.

So, in the endless turmoils of budgeting and money crisis, I wonder just how many remembered the lovely dancing crystals of ice and water.  This winter might prove to be an interesting and expensive one.

While carolers, school children, and I sing gleefully and with much vigor (talent notwithstanding) about more and more snow, I have to stop for a moment and wonder…did they save enough back to keep me, you, and all of our loved ones safe?   I hope so.

I am a writer, a student, a teacher, a philosopher, a parent, a child. All of these components have been essential in creating the woman writing to you today. Everyone has a purpose in life, be it huge or minor. We all have a role to play. Mine is to help others along the way, regardless of the Path they are called to follow. My students come to me of their own will, adapt my teachings to their own experiences and move on when they are ready. To my thoughts, this is exactly as it should be.
